Combined transport - Combi-transport - Intermodal transport
Combined or intermodal transport refers to shipments of goods where loading units are forwarded by at least two different means of transport.
Advantages of combined transport at a glance:
- Pick-up and delivery on the road is kept as short as possible
- Climate and environmentally friendly transport
Road haulage is only used over short distances, for example to take the goods being transported to the railway or sea or to pick the goods up again at the point of unloading. Using combined transport reduces CO2 emissions and the energy consumption per loading unit.

Rail transport is superior when it comes to moving large quantities of goods over long distances.

House-to-house deliveries are only rarely feasible by rail. The disadvantages of rail transport are balanced out by flexible road haulage by truck. The combination of the road/rail means of transport leads to a reduction in CO2 emissions and protects the environment.
